With high hopes for 2023, here are 3 Packers storylines to monitor in the season opener
Aaron Rodgers and the wide receivers
The Green Bay Packers made a significant investment in their wide receiver position this offseason, signing Sammy Watkins and Christian Watson to go along with Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb. The Packers are hoping that these new additions will help take some of the pressure off of Aaron Rodgers and give him more weapons to work with.However, there are still some question marks surrounding the Packers' receiving corps. Watkins has been injury-prone throughout his career, Watson is a rookie, and Lazard and Cobb are not exactly known for being consistent. If the Packers' wide receivers can't step up, it could be a long season for Rodgers and the Packers.
The offensive line
The Packers' offensive line was one of the worst in the NFL last season, and they didn't do much to address the problem this offseason. They did sign veteran tackle Caleb Jones, but he is not a long-term solution.The Packers' offensive line is going to need to be much better in 2023 if they want to be successful. They need to be able to protect Rodgers and give him time to throw, and they need to be able to open up holes for the running game. If the Packers' offensive line can't improve, it could be another long season for Rodgers and the Packers.
The defense
The Packers' defense was one of the best in the NFL last season, but they lost some key players this offseason, including Za'Darius Smith, Preston Smith, and Oren Burks. The Packers did sign some new players to help fill those holes, but it remains to be seen how well they will be able to replace the production of the players they lost.The Packers' defense is going to need to be just as good in 2023 if they want to be successful. They need to be able to generate pressure on the quarterback, and they need to be able to stop the run. If the Packers' defense can't play at a high level, it could be a long season for Rodgers and the Packers.
