Keir Starmer: From Labour leadership to Prime Minister
Early life and career
Keir Starmer was born in London in 1962. He studied law at the University of Leeds and practiced as a barrister before entering politics.
Political career
Starmer was first elected to Parliament in 2015, representing the constituency of Holborn and St Pancras. He served in a number of shadow cabinet roles under Jeremy Corbyn, including Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union.
In 2020, Starmer was elected leader of the Labour Party. He has since led the party to several electoral victories, including the 2021 London Mayoral election.
Prime Minister of the United Kingdom
In 2023, Starmer was elected Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He is the first Labour Prime Minister since Gordon Brown in 2010.
Starmer has pledged to lead a progressive government that will invest in public services, tackle inequality, and protect the environment.
